What is Art Therapy?

Art Therapy originated in the field of psychotherapy as a form of expressive therapy using the creative process of art to improve an individual’s physical, mental and emotional well-being. The process of art creation allows an individual to communicate and express themselves when words do not suffice or cannot be verbalized. Participants are encouraged to use a variety of creative materials to express their personal feelings and thoughts. No artistic experience is required—only the freedom to create and explore.
